Struttura vivente sconosciuta
The enormous living structure on the horizon can be characterized by what it is not:
1. It is not a tree. Surface analysis inconclusive.
2. It is not reasonably sized. Among the largest living things ever catalogued on a planetary surface. The visible structure is more than two kilometers tall and nearly three kilometers wide. Hydrogen bladders contribute to but cannot explain its stability.
3. It is not exclusively photosynthetic. Sunlight alone cannot feed its whole volume.
4. It is not well. Spectral analysis suggests little activity within the structure. It is dormant or dead. Organic offgassing suggests the onset of decomposition.
Tentative conclusion: the organism has an unknown energy source and a way to draw in minerals and nutrients from a huge area. This implies the existence of a subsurface root network. The organism as a whole may be in distress. This could imply difficulties with the root network.
"The only thing you need to do is go towards that tree. If you're ever lost, look for a way to get closer. That tree is the whole world. The only thing that matters."
