BACKGROUND The Alterra All Environment Protection suit, or AEP suit (never APE suit), is a second skin for pioneers.

The latest and most radical AEP designs include a suction pump on the wrist, which mates with an implanted shunt in the pioneer's body to sample alien tissues.
